Hotel Pattee Public/Private Partnership

Perry Economic Development announced the completion of the purchase of Hotel Pattee and LaPoste in April of 2021. The purchase was a conclusion to the agreement Perry Industries, Inc. (“PEDI”) and Perry Economic Development, Inc. (PED) had with Maxwell Hospitality, LLC and HPLP, LLC. to acquire the Hotel Pattee and La Poste assets.

A unique public private-partnership model for the purchase and operation of the properties enabled this opportunity for the community. As the sponsoring organizations of this effort, the City of Perry has made an initial economic contribution of over $650,000 and Perry Economic Development made its own $300,000 donation.

The crucial leadership gift in this campaign came in early March from Osmundson Mfg. Co. in the amount of $500,000. We also received a major $300,000 gift from the Wiese Foundation. In total, the cash contributions and pledges for this project have now reached $1.6 million of the $2.35 million private fundraising campaign goal (excluding the public City of Perry contributions).

This generational purchase opportunity will position the Hotel Pattee and LaPoste as locally-owned and operated, solidifying the long-term viability of these critical community assets. Renovated in 1993 as one of the finest boutique hotels in the U.S., Hotel Pattee remains a very significant economic asset to Perry, bringing as many as 65,000 people per year. LaPoste provides a grand venue for several special events each year and has become a perfect complement to the facilities at the hotel.

As the organization works to complete the final phase of the capital campaign, contributions can be made by contacting any Perry Economic Development board members or the City of Perry office or by e-mailing: [email protected]. Perry Economic Development, Inc. is an Internal Revenue Code 501 (c) 3 organization Fed ID #42-1234767. Pledges/checks may be sent to Perry Economic Development, Inc , c/o PO Box 158, Perry, Iowa 50220.

About Hotel Pattee and LaPoste
In September of 1993, Howard and Roberta Ahmanson became owners and developers and completed purposeful renovations to make the hotel one of the finest boutique hotels in the U.S. The property remains a very significant economic asset to Perry, bringing as many as 65,000 people per year, and increasing the economic base between five and fifteen million dollars according to social economists using federal multipliers. Since the Ahmanson’s sale of the Hotel Pattee in 2007, the hotel has known one hospitality corporation and two different family models of ownership.

Originally built as a U.S. post office in 1913, LaPoste was restored to its current use as a grand event space about a decade ago. LaPoste is a gathering space for weddings, receptions, graduations, reunions, meetings, galas, dinners, and parties. Art, music, and performance have filled La Poste during Art on the Prairie, Holiday Cheer, the Chocolate Walk, the Garden Party, Common Ground, and Ragbrai, fulfilling the building’s new designation as a cultural arts and events center.

The Hotel Pattee, www.hotelpattee.com and its companion facility, LaPoste , La Poste Perry, IA - Home, continue to prove themselves as critical parts of the economic, business, and social foundation of the Perry community.
