Comprehensive Plan 2030
The Comprehensive Plan is a statement of what Perry wants to become. It establishes a community vision and sets guiding principles designed to attain the vision.
The plan is based on a composition of concepts, patterns and relationships that deal with integrating the social aspects of a community with its physical development. Unlike the zoning ordinance, the comprehensive plan is futuristic in that it guides decisions that have yet to be made. The word “comprehensive” in itself provides meaning to the plan: it deals with the whole community and not just the parts.
Perry’s Comprehensive Plan will include many components. Woven throughout the plan will be the ten Smart Planning principles established by Iowa’s Smart Planning bill:

June 2013 Open House Displays
Draft concepts for the Comprehensive Plan were presented to the public at an open house at the Town/Craft Center on June 19th. Attendees were able to review, clarify, and provide feedback on a wide variety of areas of the Comprehensive Plan. Informational boards presented the proposed vision and guiding principles, approach to land use and community growth, parks and trails, housing, economic development, and infrastructure. Images of the boards are available below with comments from the open house. Please review and provide any thoughts or questions you may have via the Online Comment Form. Comments are being solicited through mid-July.
April 2013 Community Workshops
On April 3rd and 4th , community members were invited to participate in public meetings to discuss key issues and assets in the community and inform the overall vision and guiding principles of the plan. 50+ community members attended the small group listening sessions and the community workshop. Consultants also led a student workshop at Perry Middle School, engaging 140+ sixth grade students.
