About Us
The Perry Planning and Zoning Commission is a seven member commission of individuals of the City of Perry that have knowledge or experience to act in matters pertaining to the development of a City plan and who don’t hold any elective office in the City government. The term for these individuals is a staggered four year term. The Perry Planning and Zoning Commission meet on an as needed basis only. Members are not compensated for their services. The members of the Planning and Zoning Commission elect a Chairperson and Vice Chairperson annually.
As a resident of Perry one of the most valuable duties of the Planning and Zoning Commission is that of establishing the City zoning regulations and other items related to zoning. Their work helps to ensure property values as it would prevent business, industry and residential properties from encroaching on each other. The commission also works with requests to review all plans, plats, or re-plats of subdivisions or re-subdivisions of land. They also review these items as they pertain to divisions and properties that are within the two-mile corridor of the City of Perry. In addition, the commission reviews and comments on any street, park, parkway, boulevard, or public improvement affecting the City plan. Many of the duties and responsibilities of the Perry Planning and Zoning Commission are governed by Code of Iowa, Sec. 392.1 and Sec. 414.6.
