With the goal of improving communication between the City and the Citizens of Perry, we will be writing City Project Blog posts to provide updates on the progress of various projects. Check back here often to see how projects are going!
Pattee Park Expansion & Soccer Complex The City received a very good bid for this project and is able to complete the full build-out. This project includes four soccer fields, a parking lot, and a pond with a paved walking trail. This project is funded by an Iowa Department of Natural Resources REAP grant, Local Option Sales Tax, and generous donations by Tyson Fresh Meats, Perry Soccer Club, ITC Midwest, the Hotel Pattee, and the Bock Family Foundation. Other projects in Pattee Park include new electrical services at the baseball and softball fields, upgraded LED lights and grounds maintenance throughout the park. 1st and Willis Intersection This Project was made possible by a Traffic Safety Improvement grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation. This project will be starting Monday, April 4th and should be completed by early June. Construction will cause some change in traffic patterns, but directions will be posted. The project will be done in two phases, which will cause closures on Willis Avenue. Detours for these closures will be posted for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Willis Avenue Bridge The Willis Avenue Bridge over Frog Creek will be replaced this summer. This bridge has been on the list of impaired structures for some time and has had a weight restriction. This project was also made possible through a DOT grant. The pedestrian bridges will also be removed and preplaced as part of this reconstruction. The project goes to bid through the DOT in mid-April and should be completed by fall. North Street The construction of North Street between 16th Street and 18th Street will also be going to bid through the DOT in May. This project has been in the planning phase for nearly ten years and is finally coming to fruition. The North Street project is funded by the Iowa Surface Transportation Program. Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Overlay This will be one of the largest overlay projects in recent history of Perry. Over 55 blocks in town will be seeing a new layer of asphalt. The funding for this project ended up working out perfectly. Last year, the State Passed a ten cent increase in the Road Use Tax that we pay at the pump. This increase brings around $130,000 new dollars into our community. We paired this additional revenue with some of our Local Option Sales Tax funds for the next three years to make the $850,000 project possible. This is a great use of both of these revenue sources and will have a great impact on the quality of our neighborhood streets in town. |
