Local Option Sales Tax is a 1% sales tax on the purchase of goods and services within the City of Perry.
The amount you pay for sales tax will not increase. It will remain at the current amount of 7%.
The City of Perry has had a 1% Local Option Sales Tax in effect since July 1, 2010. This will be in effect through December 31, 2019. The Perry City Council is looking to renew this 1% Local Option Sales Tax with the help of the residents of Perry at the November 7th, 2017 election.
Local Option Sales Tax is not collected on food, the sale of vehicles, utilities or room rentals at hotels.
Who Pays? We all pay the tax when we buy a taxable item within the city limits of Perry or purchase a taxable item that is delivered or mailed to our address within city limits. This includes Tourists, Visitors, and those who spend money in Perry. This group provides a substantial amount of the revenue under this tax.
This Tax enables the City to stabilize our Debt Service Levy.
