CHIEF DAN BRICKNER:
Chief Brickner is originally from Northeastern Iowa and has been in law enforcement since 1978 serving in Manchester, Albia, and with the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Dept as well as others. He has worked as a patrol officer, dispatcher, jailer, deputy, detective and has been a Chief of Police since 1986. In 1994 he was appointed as the Chief of Police in Perry. Chief Brickner and his wife, Sue have two grown children, Matt and Megan. The Brickner family enjoys camping, canoeing and watching any Iowa Hawkeye sports.
ASSISTANT CHIEF ERIC VAUGHN:
Assistant Chief Eric Vaughn is originally from Eastern Iowa and has been a law enforcement
officer since 1994.

SERGEANT JIM ARCHER:
Sgt. Archer began his law enforcement career with the Harlan Police Department in 1994 and joined the Perry Police Department in 2000. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2002 and serves as night shift supervisor. Sgt. Archer is a defensive tactics instructor and a Drug Recognition Expert for the department. He enjoys spending time with his family and out door activities.
COMMUNICATION SUPERVISOR, LORI RILEY
Communication Supervisor Lori Riley began her law enforcement career in 1991 in Perry. Lori accepted the position of Supervisor on November 1, 2007. Prior to this, she worked at the Adel Police Department. Lori has two daughters and a son.
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, PAULA RYCHNOVSKY
Paula has been with the Perry Police Department for five years and comes from a family with a background in law enforcement. Previous to 2001 her work experience consists of city and county governmental offices in Mount Ayr, her hometown. Paula and her husband Lyle live in Rippey. Paula has one son, Wes, wife Amber and granddaughter Emma and a grandson Jeffrey. She also is a step-mom to Alice, Mike and has four step-grandchildren, Kelsey (and husband Tony), Brian, and twins Zach and Nathan.

Wayne started with the Perry Police Department in 1994 as a reserve officer and became full-time in 1995. Wayne was born and raised in the Perry area. His pastime activities include working on his farm, riding four wheelers and racing his modified race car.

Officer Jans has been with the Perry Police Department since June of 1996. He is currently assigned as the School Resource Officer, and 5th grade DARE Instructor.
He is also a certified firearms, submachine gun and Fire Arms Training System instructor.

is also a member of the Perry Fire Department
and has been a member of the Dallas Co.

DETECTIVE JEROME HILL
Jerome has been at the Perry Police Department since 2002. He was in law enforcement in his hometown of Osceola from 1995-2002. His current job duties are public relations, patrol, investigations, entry team and DARE. He is married and has three children. In his pastime he enjoys camping, hunting, and spending time with his family.

Officer Rod Pavelka became a Law Enforcement Officer in 1995. He has been an officer with the Perry Police Department 2003. He is our Technical Collision Investigator and a member of our Entry Team.

JEFF LARSON
Officer Jeff Larson has been with the Perry Police Department since December 2005 and graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in April of 2006. Officer Larson has AS in Criminal Justice from Iowa Central College. Officer Larson is from Livermore, Iowa.
OFFICER JOSH SPARKS
Officer Sparks started with the Perry Police Department in February of 2006. His hometown is Monroe IA. Officer Sparks has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and currently working on his Bachelors Degree in Public Administration. His pastime includes motor cycle riding, camping and spending time with family.
OFFICER RICHARD CUEVAS
Officer Cuevas began his law enforcement career in Perry in January 2007. Officer Cuevas served in the Sable Scout Platoon 1st Battalion, 13th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Division, which was involved in combat operations in Taji, Iraq. Los Angeles, California is Officer Cuevas and his wife's hometown.

Officer Clay Leonard began his law enforcement career in October 2007 with the Perry Police Department. Officer Leonard completed the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, graduating in April 2008. Officer Leonard enjoys spending time with his family, riding his motorcycle and keeping in shape.
OFFICER MATT RIPLEY
Officer Matt Ripley began December 2007 with the Perry Police Department. Officer Ripley graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in April 2008. He is originally from upstate New York and when he is not on duty he enjoys running and spending time with his family.

Communications Specialist Joey Crane is in her 1st year at the Perry Police Department.
COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, VERONICA LABAR
Communication Specialist, Veronica LaBar was born and raised in Dallas County. She is a graduate of Perry High School in 1972. She currently resides in Rippey with her dog, Bo. She has been blessed with 4 daughters/spouses and 17 grandchildren ranging in ages from 7 weeks to 18 years of age. Her parents just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Veronica started with the Perry Police Department in 1974 and currently works the midnight shift. Along with Perry she has also worked part-time in the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Adel Police Department, Boone Police Department and Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, MARY VANDERNAALD
Communications Specialist, Mary Vander Naald has worked as a dispatcher for 21 years and come to the Perry Police Department in 2000. Mary and her husband, Art has two grown children and one grandchild. She enjoys quilting, reading, cooking, the great outdoors and spending time with her grandchild, oh, and the rest of the family too.
PERRY POLICE DEPARTMENT RESERVE OFFICER’S
RESERVE OFFICER PROGRAM
The Perry Police Department’s Reserve Officer Program provides comprehensive
Training in all aspects of Law Enforcement. The Reserve Officers ride a minimum of 8 hours a month and are utilized for special events in the community. Contact the Perry Chief of Police for details on how to become a member.
RANDY PEEL
Randy has been a reserve officer for Perry since June 1995. Randy was born and raised in the Perry area with Minburn as his hometown. Randy is married to his wife of 20 years and has two daughters, two dogs and a cat. I enjoy helping out the citizens of our community.
OTHER POLICE DEPARTMENT PROGRAMS
DARE PROGRAM
The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs and violence. DARE is a police-officer led series of classroom lessons that teaches children how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. The Perry Police Department is fortunate to have two DARE programs in the Perry School District. One is in the elementary school taught by DARE Instructor Pat Jans and one in the middle school taught by DARE Instructor Jerome Hill.
SRO PROGRAM
The Perry Police Department’s School Resource Officer Program is a collaborative effort between the Perry Community School District and the Perry Police Department to provide for the safety and security of all students, faculty and guest of the school district. The SRO provides guest instructions on a variety of topics including anger management, conflict resolution, driver’s education, citizen’s rights and the law classes. The SRO also handles interventions with students and conducts investigations into alleged criminal conduct.
