Welcome to Perry, Iowa, a city featuring educational, business, industrial, recreational and social opportunities as diverse as our population. Located on the Raccoon River and Raccoon River Valley Recreational Trail in northwest Dallas County, Perry is ideally situated for access to the amenities and social opportunities offered in the nearby larger cities of Des Moines and Ames yet distant enough to enhance our own distinct lifestyle, city government, schools and culture.
Perry’s Highway 141 corridor, a four- lane state highway, provides easy access to Des Moines and Interstates 80 and 35 is lined by our industrial park home to established tenants with room for more. Popular chain restaurants such as McDonalds and Burger King, a Hy-Vee grocery store, Pamida and Alco discount stores are all accessible from Highway 141.
Entering Perry from the east, the first exit into town is Willis Avenue, an established thoroughfare lined with historical homes representing many architectural styles including Victorian and Arts and Crafts. Willis eventually turns into a boulevard culminating in front of the Four Diamond, Hotel Pattee, and centerpiece of our downtown cultural and historic district. Downtown is host to a plethora of quaint shops and businesses including Ben Franklin, an old fashioned variety store, Bacon’s Jewelers, Perry Paint and Design, Bridal Boutique, Calico Shops and Tea Room, Stitches in Time, BRG Music and Guitars, Mary Rose Shop, Joebgen Shoes, a Latino bakery, a fashion store and a tienda. Nearby are also a Dollar General store, Fareway grocery store, Ace Hardware and Stokely Lumber
Restaurants choices include fine dining at the Hotel Pattee, lunch at the Tea Room, Mandarin Chinese, Mars Dairy Bar soda fountain, Breadeaux Pizza, Mexican and Salvadoran with barbeque, more pizza and an oriental buffet not far away.
You can follow local news and events in the Perry Chief, our local newspaper and on KDLS our local radio station. Also located downtown are offices for The City of Perry, Perry Community Schools, Perry Industries, Perry Economic Development, Perry Area Chamber of Commerce, Iowa State University, Des Moines Area Community College and all of our various service clubs and citizens work hard to make Perry one of Iowa’s “Great Places.”
“Make Yourself At Home!”
