Employees of this office
are responsible for maintaining all official
City records in compliance with the Code
of Iowa and other state, federal and local
regulations. This includes the preparation
of City Council agendas, public notices,
minutes recording actions taken by the City
Council, and maintaining records of the
City's ordinances, contracts, agreements,
and other historical and legal documents.
The Clerk's Office regularly provides information
regarding Council actions, procedures, and
City ordinances to the public and other
city departments. Various licenses and permits
are issued in the City Clerk's Office such
as, pet licenses, alcohol and tobacco licenses,
coin operated machine licenses and peddler’s
permits.
The Finance Officer
is responsible for the accurate and timely
recording of all financial transactions
of the City and safeguarding the City's
assets. This department processes accounts
payable, payroll, property tax and special
assessments receipts, grant funds, bond
proceeds, payment of principal and interest
on the City's debt and numerous other accounting
transactions. The financial reports generated
enable the City to make educated decisions
regarding cash management, maximizing the
investment of idle funds, debt management,
and monitor the City's budget and financial
position. Each year an independent CPA firm
audits the City's financial statements.

Pet Licensing
Cats and dogs are required to be licensed at the McCreary Community Building, 1800 Pattee Street. The fee is $5.00 for neutered and spayed animals and $20.00 for non-neutered and non-spayed animals. Licenses issued in September 2010 will be good through December 2011. The licensing renewal will then be January 1st of each year. Owners must provide proof of rabies vaccination and neutering and/or spaying. There is a penalty for non-registration.
