Red Cross Learn to Swim
The American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program teaches aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Its objective is to teach children to swim and be safe in, on, and around water. Preschool classes are 30 minutes, all others are 40 minutes.

Parent/Child Swim Classes
The American Red Cross provides a class to help parents orient their children to the water. This class is similar to the preschool level with one exception; the parent joins in the fun. For ages 6 months to 4 years.

Lifeguard Training
Lap Swimming
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certifies individuals 15 years and older to become lifeguards for public and private facilities. The class covers CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard skills. Participants must complete all 31 hours and all required skills to become certified. There must be a minimum of five students enrolled to hold the class. If you become a lifeguard and work for the recreation center for more than six months, you will receive full reimbursement of the class fee.
Lap swimming and water walking are activities to encourage individuals to swim/walk regularly. Water walking is increasingly popular due to the low impact on the joints, perfect for sore knees and weak leg muscles. The light resistance that the water offers helps to increase your leg strength. The goal is to improve long-term physical fitness. Awards are given to the swimmer and water walker of the month and year.

What would a pool be without some time for kids to come and leisure swim? The McCreary Community Building has several times available for open swimming. During open swim kids and adults alike can come to swim, play basketball, go off the diving board and have fun. Kids seven years old and under must be with an adult at all times or a patron at least 14 years of age.

Peddle Pushers
Walk and Talk
Come in and ride one of our Schwinn Airdyne bikes or our Tetrix Recumbent bike and let us track your mileage. Prizes are awarded to Rider of the Month and Rider of the Year.
Fees: Membership or Daily Fee.
This program is designed for physical fitness and friendship. Participants may walk in the gym, Wiese Park, or on our treadmill. Maps of the Wiese Park trails are available at the front desk. Prizes will be awarded for Walker of the Month and Walker of the Year.

Wednesday Fellowship
Morning Card Games
Come and enjoy the company of others, an interesting program and a good, hot, homemade meal. Meals are served in the McCreary Community Building gymnasium.

Fee: $3 each week

Looking for something to do while you drink your morning coffee? Come play cards at the McCreary Community Building. The senior room will be available weekday mornings for organized card games. Holiday Craft Show
Crafters are needed for the third annual "Holiday Craft Show," 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Nov. 17 at the McCreary Community Center, 1800 Pattee Street, in Perry. Learn a New Sport
Improve your skills while having fun in this league. Come test your skills with youth from around the area. Participants receive team shirts. There are some changes in the dates

Murder Mystery Party
The first annual bike contest will be part of the Perry Chamber of Commerce Spooktacular. Riders will attempt to negotiate an obstacle course and win prizes. The competition will be held on Second Street during Spooktacular.

Tiny Tot Kickballers
Looking for an opportunity for a pickup game? Throughout the week, half of the gym will be closed to all young children to allow teenagers 16 years and older and adults the opportunity to play basketball or soccer. Soccer games will be available Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. The gym will be open for basketball games Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:50 p.m.
Kickball is a fun and exciting game for kids to play. Learn the basic fundamentals and enjoy games.

Children’s Weight Training
Here's your chance! If you are age 11-13 years and can't find someone to supervise you in the weight rooms, we will do it for you. The six-week long, structured program will teach you proper warm up, cool down and weight lifting technique. Registration is required.

Disc Golf
Come play disc golf on our challenging course. The nine hole course has three sets of tees for varied levels of difficulty. The course is open seven days a week to the public with no charge. Come inside the MCB to pick up a scorecard and map. Tournaments and contests will be scheduled and players of all skill levels are welcome. Golf discs are available for purchase at the MCB.

Men's 3-on-3 Basketball
Men's 5-on-5 Basketball
Hold your own on the courts at the Perry High School. Games will be played half court and players will call their own fouls. The season will be played in a round-robin format. Three games are played to 15 points each night. Games are self-officiated.

Earlier this year, the Perry Recreation Department formed a running club. The club meets at the recreation center. This club is open to everyone 18 years and older from beginners to the most experienced runners. There is an annual fee of $10 and Deb Miller is serving as program supervisor.

Relive your youth! Duck, dodge, dip, and have fun playing this exciting sport. Teams will consist of equal numbers of men and women. A double round-robin season will be played. League champs will receive awards. There will be a post-season tournament where the winners will receives awards. Games will be played in the McCreary Community Building guymasium.

Fitness Programs
Beginning/Advanced Pilates
Pilates blends body awareness, breath and elongation of the spine with strengthening of core muscles. Mary Laborde, certified Palates and group instructor, has been motivating students for 11 years. Enjoy our aerobics room that includes padded floor, fitness balls and BOSU balls. The class is a six-week program, so sign up today.

Volunteer Opportunities
You can make a positive impact on the community. The Perry Recreation Department needs people who are willing to be volunteer coaches, scorekeepers, officials, supervisors, or people willing to lend a hand any way they can. Aerobics
These are our popular aerobics classes, re-designed for those who wish to start their day with a good workout. Enjoy our aerobics room that includes padded floor, fitness balls and BOSU balls. The class meets year round.

Fitness Challenge

This program is designed to help you keep those 2008 New Year's resolutions. Points can be earned for prizes. Earn points by exercising and by eating well. Registration has already begun. Earn 20 bonus points by registering by January 11, 8 p.m. If you accumulate 300 fitness points you will win a sweatshirt. Those with 500 points get entered into a drawing to win gift certificates.
